The Blog Head has returned and recovered from a nasty hitchhiker that attached itself to his colon in Ireland....
That would be a flu virus and it laid him lower than a submarine bottom. The nasty thing took a while to die.... but we happily report that the VIRUS HATH LEFT THE BUILDING!!!!!
The Blog Head tromped around the Donegal region of Ireland for a week. His North Face rain jacket performed admirably in the constant rain and mist of the Irish countryside. The Vasque Velocity GTX trail runners kept his feet happy and blister free. However, He forgot his gaiters at home. Gaiters are a NECCESITY in the countryside. Hikers in this region face almost constant boglands and wet heather. The Blog Head suffered from "water in the shoes because he's a forgetful dope" syndrome every day. But the Smartwool socks managed the water just fine.
The OR rain hats (aka Seattle Somebrero, Storm Bucket) are a wonderful addition. It brings sunshine even when sunshine is a LONG way off.
Sil-nylon stuff sacks worked really well and kept all the important items dry.... even in driving rain.
The greatest thing about hiking in Ireland is that one is never far from a tea room or a pub. A warming cup of whiskey or a quick hit of caffeine is always available when the body needs it. Awesome!!!
Some pics will be included in the next few days of entries..... here's one to get you started.... (a mountain outside of Glen ComCille... just a short hike..... we didn't even change our street clothes for this one.....)
