Today's links have been skipped due to the nature of today's post. It just seems inappropriate at this time.
We are sad to report the loss of an Arcadian Shop family member and good friend Jim O' Brien. Many of you know Jim well. You paddled with him, enjoyed his quiet expertise and his expansive spirit of generosity.
Jim passed away on The Hubbard while paddling. It is a horrible accident and we are all still in a state of shock, disbelief and mourning.
When the Arc Shop crew gathered at The Dream Away Lodge on Wed. night we noticed right away that the crescent moon seemed to be smiling down at us. One member of the staff noted that it was just like Jim's smile when he was portaging hellish distances to get to tiny creeks in the middle of nowhere. Then that same person commented that it WAS Jim's smile.... because he could finally see all the little creeks that he never saw while he drew breath.
If people would like to share memories of Jim with the wider community they may do so at http://www.npmb.com/cms2/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?141625.0
There will also be a memorial service for Jim on Sat. March 20th at 10:30 am next to the brook that runs through the Aquatic Gardens section of Forest Park, Springfield, Ma.
Jim, you inspired a whole generation of paddlers around here.
Enjoy the creeks up there in heaven.
We'll see you soon.
